I was born on top of a Cornish tin mine, in the far south-west of the UK. A magical county with a rich heritage, Cornwall continues to inspire my work.

Years spent outside the county have been dominated by the letter B. There  was Bath, studying for my degree in German and Italian … Berlin, singing in rock bands … Finally, Birmingham, where in between enjoying curries and real ale I spent a decade teaching languages alongside writing articles, interviews and stories for all kinds of magazines.

Unable to stay away, I returned to Cornwall’s ‘clay country’ and joined educational charity The Eden Project (www.edenproject.com). I took on all manner of roles during my eleven years with them – gardener, guide, administrator – and I wrote features for their Friends magazine.

In 2020, I was delighted to join Authors Reach. My prize-winning novel The Time Crystals, a children’s time travel adventure, was published in 2020, with the sequel Flight of the Bluebird coming out in 2022. The Mystery of Acorn Academy, the first in my series of Cornish Mystery Adventures, was published in 2021. My latest novel Tell And You Die, a young adult suspense novel, came out in June 2023.

When not writing, I love to work in my wildlife garden or go walking in the Cornish landscape. In 2017, I returned to the Cornish village where I was born. Over the next couple of years, my husband and I lived in a caravan while we helped to build our own house. This involved crash courses in new skills such as slating roofs, fitting insulation and laying flooring. I’m not the most practical of people, but it’s been a fascinating challenge!
