Cover for Ten Twisty Tales: suspense stories for young adults by Teresa Bassett

I’m pleased to announce that my new book, Ten Twisty Tales, has been published today with Authors Reach.

Ten Twisty Tales is a collection of suspenseful short stories, all of them standalone. Like my previous books, the stories are aimed primarily at young adults, but they are relatively mature in tone, and could be enjoyed by readers of any age from around thirteen and up.

The cover has been designed for me by RoseWolf Design, and I’m delighted with it – it really seems to sum up the themes and the feel of the stories.

Here’s the blurb:

A split-second decision. A life changed forever.

Decisions may be made in the blink of an eye, but their consequences can last a lifetime. If you enjoy stories with tricky dilemmas at their heart, you’ll love these twisty tales all about ordinary people and the choices they make: sometimes good, sometimes bad … and sometimes deadly.

A law-abiding student’s life unravels after her boyfriend begs for help in plotting revenge.

A loving daughter is thrilled when her dad takes her and her brother on an unexpected day out. So why is there a gun in the glovebox?

A lonely fifteen-year-old can’t believe her luck when a popular highflier seeks her out. The new friend exudes confidence and charm, but what lies beneath that perfect exterior?

The ten separate stories explore a range of troubles, from deceitful friends to thorny relationships and family crises. Some are darker than others, although there’s often a glimmer of light shining through.

So where does the inspiration for this one come from? Well, I’ve always been fascinated by the battle between good and evil, which seems to become more and more relevant with each passing day. Why do some people choose to do bad things, while others follow their conscience, often at great cost to themselves?

The main characters in these stories are all young adults, a time of life I love to write about, when everything is relatively fresh and new, yet can also be confusing and chaotic. A time when people are trying to find their place in the world and work out what they believe in, often with conflicting ideas flying at them from all directions. I clearly remember how difficult that can be, and the stories all concern young people faced with a dilemma or a difficult decision. Will they do what’s right – or take a wrong turning, one which might haunt them forever?
